Curiosity in the Penguins…

There was great excitement in the Penguin Class today when a fish arrived in class.

Where did it come from?

Is it sleeping?

What ocean did it come from?

How did it die?

How do fish breathe?

Who is going to eat it?

These are just a few of the questions that the children asked as they explored a sea bream.   As well as a sensory experience the fish stimulated lots of discussion and a way of introducing new vocabulary such as gills, scales, habitat and predator. They were filled with awe and wonder at it’s scales as they peered through the magnifying glasses.

Next time you are in a supermarket take a trip to the fish counter, it’s amazing what discussions you can have!
