This week on Monday -Wednesday the children have been learning about the First Nations of North America. We have focused on the Iroquois and Sioux Nations. The children have had the opportunity to make various objects, listen to stories, discuss, look at photos etc of these Nations. All our work has been with the greatest respect to the Sioux and Iroquois and where possible we have used materials that are natural or reflect their use of natural materials. We have had a great week so far and much of what we have done has been co-operativley. This is how the First Nations lived within their own Nation. We have learned a great deal.
I would also like to say a very big thank you to all class teams for their hard work this week. As History Coordinator it has been a super week within school so far and the amount of work has been amazing. There has been such a range too, from visits outside school, music and chanting, artwork, writing, dance, design and technology to handling artefacts. The children have been engrossed in their learning and one quote I heard was ‘This has been my favourite week ever’. It is beneficial for the children to have an understanding of the past and indigenous populations. A very big thank you to all who have made this possible this week.
