As a school we are always looking at ways to promote healthy living and this year we have invested in a new programme called Fun-Trition. Each class has taken part in a series of lessons lead by Mr Allen, of Premier Sport. Fun-Trition aims to inspire children, parents, teachers, friends and families to make healthy lifestyle choices, through a series of interactive, practical, fun and thought provoking lessons. These lessons are based around the main principles of keeping healthy – eating well, drinking well, moving well and sleeping well.
We have received lots of positive feedback from children in all classes and we were particularly pleased to hear that Reception aged children were examining and commenting on the food labelling traffic light system on the packaging of their food, in their packed lunch boxes.
This term we also welcomed dental nurses from John G Plummer Dental Services. They gave an interesting talk on how to look after your teeth and we received lots of positive comments from parents and carers after the children used disclosure tablets at home to check that their teeth were being cleaned properly.
We are also thrilled to announce that we have invested in some exciting outdoor gym equipment on the KS2 paddock. This has been installed over the Easter break and it will encourage children to engage in physical activity at lunchtime whilst complementing our popular Smooga, climbing wall, netball court and climbing frame. It can be also used in P.E lessons to broaden the range of activities offered to pupils. WE are also looking forward to our new outdoor classroom which is being been adapted to promote and encourage physical development.
Lastly we are pleased to announce that 91% of our current Year 6 children can swim 25 metres and can perform safe self rescue. Thank you to Mrs Bell and all of the parent/carer volunteers who have helped us in our weekly swimming lessons.
