As part of our Invaders and Settlers topic, we have been finding out about our own families. We were amazed to find out that we have links with many other places within Great Britain and overseas: Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Trinidad, China, Egypt, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Jamaica, Italy, Cyprus, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Germany, India, the Republic of Ireland, Spain, Argentina, France, Sweden, USA, Tobago, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. It made us think again about Benjamin Zephaniah’s poem The British, which we read at the beginning of term, exploring immigration and how this has been happening for thousands of years.
We also found out that we have some famous ancestors, including the artist Sir Joshua Reynolds, the heavyweight boxing champion Jim Braddock and even king Edward 111. It was fascinating sharing our work this morning.
