This year we raised a staggering £555.56 for Children in Need.

Welcome to Brundall Primary

In the midst of the packed Science Museum in London over the half term, I was delighted to see a family from school making their way through the crowds. After being in amongst thousands of strangers, it put a big smile on my face to see familiar faces from school. And on the way back on the tube, with all the different trains to get, and different carriages to get into, Bobby and I ended up in the carriage that another family from school had boarded! I don’t know what the mathematical chances are of this happening-it certainly seemed amazing to me to encounter two families from school.

Once we identify ‘what we’re looking for’, we seem to have a better chance of finding it. This is part of the thinking behind our School Improvement Plan which was drawn up after our visioning the future morning. One of the Key Priorities was continuing to develop an active, hands on curriculum for learning. I think the Topic Traders Week, at the end of the half term, was an excellent example of this target in practice. The Market Day on the Friday morning was an exciting demonstration of the children’s learning-and how they had turned their learning into practical products, games and experiences, and prepared their classrooms for presenting their products in the best way. Our ‘mystery shoppers’ were very positive about the classes, and it was great to see so many parents visiting the school to see (and buy!) the work on display. I would like to thank all the staff involved for the enormous effort that went into making such a memorable week of learning for our children.

Another Key Priority is the continued development of Physical Education in the school, and the High Quality PE Charter Mark awarded the week before half term is a good sign of recognition that we are moving in the right direction. Developing our outdoor learning environment is also in the plan, and we will be working in partnership with the Friends of Brundall, as well as a developing link with our local Budgens, to fundraise to support this goal.

The ‘Friends of Brundall’ ran a very successful Disco for Valentine’s Day. It was a good atmosphere and the ‘chill-out’ space was a useful addition to the excitement of the dance floor. The bag collection is also underway as I write this and I want to acknowledge the good efforts of the association in running this new project as well as organising the disco. These add something extra to the children’s experience of being part of our community at school. Developing our teaching and learning in Maths is in the Plan, and with that in mind, I hope parents have had a chance to look at the Website and the material on Calculations and maths games that Ms Hewitt has posted. And if any one would like to figure out the chances of bumping into 8 people from Brundall on one trip to the Science Museum.
