All the classes had to outdo each other by creating an outstanding trading outlet based around their topic over the previous five weeks. Puffin Class was studying ‘Mountain Adventures’, so they created an Alpine Trading Post, complete with a real Yeti in a cave! They sold Gingerbread Yetis, Big Foot pizzas and snowglobes. They dressed as Austrian Tyrolean dancers, Austrian mountaineers and cave children waiting to be set free from the Yeti.

We had a ‘Guess the name of the Yeti’ competition, and the winner (Ms Glover) won lunch eating Numberetti Spagetti with the Yeti… Ms Glover’s and Mrs Sutton’s classes were studying ‘Britain after the War’ and recreated a Swinging Sixties-style Carnaby Street, selling sixties fashion items and Op art ceramics.

Mr Morgan chose his DT topic to recreate a life-size fairground, where you could have your fortune told by Madame Francesca. Miss Dunn’s class sold ethnic jewellery and refreshments from the Indus Valley, whilst China was the place to get tattoos and admire all the tigers in Penguin Class. The Toucans and Dodos had metalmania with brooches, photo frames and other items on a robotic theme.

Last but not least, Kookaburras and Robins had outstanding displays based on ‘light and dark’ selling glow-in-the-dark products and edibles from the moon. Ten celebrities from the local community were invited to judge the stalls on Best Products, Best Customer Service, Best Overall Trading Post, Best Packaging and Best Costumes.

We all had a fantastic week and in the end, everyone was a winner due to sheer effort, whether they won a rosette or not!

We were lucky enough to attend a dance workshop run by the Ascendance Rep Company. We walked around the cathedral to find inspiration from the shapes and patterns seen in the wonderful architecture. We worked as a class and developed our own movements and steps to an especially arranged piece of music. We then travelled back to Brundall and performed our dance to the rest of the school. We performed it to parents and visitors at our Norfolk Show.

We were very proud of the work we produced during the week, especially our pennant, our gardens, our battlements, picture and dragon sculpture.

Parents and other members of the community came to the Norfolk Show to view all the arenas. At 10.30, the show commenced with the town crier announcing the ‘best song & dance competition’ in the central arena, then the adults went round all the arenas, judging the ‘Best in Show’. The categories were: Best song/dance, best sewn village sign, best sculpted village feature, best local menu, best miniature gardens, best Norfolk poem, best art, best museum and best kept village.

There were refreshment and flower marquees, a visit from Radio Norfolk and Isabelle brought Pippin the Shetland pony whoproved extremely popular with the crowds!

Penguin class represented Cromer, Robins represented Wymondham, Kingfishers – Ranworth, Kookaburras – Sheringham, 3S – Royal Sandringham, Puffins – Wells Next The Sea, 4TH – Norwich, 4M – Thetford, 5M – Cley, 5B – Blakeney, 6O – Great Yarmouth and 6M – Dereham.

The overall winner was Cromer, with joint runners-up Sheringham and Wells Next The Sea.

The country with the most votes won the bid to host the Special Commonwealth Games at the end of the week. Cyprus just beat Kenya by one vote, followed closely by Canada. Other contenders included Trinidad & Tobago, New Zealand, St.Lucia, the Maldives and Australia. The games were held on the last day and gold, silver and bronze medals were presented at the podium for each event.
