Pond dipping

The Penguins enjoyed a trip to the school pond this afternoon. We are exploring different habitats and learning about animal classification.

Here are some of our observations and comments:

” It’s a newt  and its an amphibian. It can live on land and in the water”.

“Look the newt is going back to its habitat!

“There are two different snails, The shells are a different shape.”

“I think the pond is fascinating!”

When children are outdoors there is a noticeable increase in talk and engagement. Children were reading the animal classification sheets, asking questions, predicting and thinking deeply.

We are so lucky to have our own pond on our school grounds. Thank you to Mr Holmes for improving this valuable learning environment for us.
