It was an early start for the Owls yesterday, as race day was finally here. There was lots of excitement and a few nerves as we set off. We had to be at the track by 8.30 am to allow for all cars competing to go through safety checks. Thankfully, we passed.
We took part in a mixture of slalom and drag races against around thirty other schools. All the team got the chance to drive, with Emily representing us brilliantly in the longer circuit race. At the end of the day, we were thrilled to win the trophy for Greenest Bodywork, fantastic recognition of all the children’s hard work. We also received a Participation Award, both of which will be presented in a special assembly on Friday.
The children’s comments say it all:
“I’ve had an amazing day”
“This is so exciting”
“It doesn’t matter that I’m not driving, it’s just good to be here.”
This has been a real team effort from all involved. Special thanks go to Rodney for all the time he gave to the project (and for the ice creams!), FOBS for their sponsorship, Eva’s Mum, for arranging for our fantastic t shirts to be printed, Evie’s Dad, for transporting the car to Scottow for us on the day and Isabelle for the cakes!
We are already thinking about our design for next year.
