On Friday 40 Brundall School children competed against other schools in the Norwich East School Sport Partnership. The event was held at Sprowston High School and it was with great excitement and pride that we took part.
Both the Year 5/6 girls and boys teams did extremely well and came 2nd out of 8 schools. There were some amazing performances and P.Bs but their sportsmanship is to be commended too. Great teamwork and hard work had taken place with the children practicing on Mondays after school for weeks. For some children, it was the first time they had felt adrenalin kick in and it was an opportunity to use their nerves to compete at a higher level. Events included obstacle relay, sprint relays, chest push, standing long jump, vertical jump, soft javelin and speed bounce.
In the afternoon it was the turn of the Year 3/4 pupils. Unfortunately, we did not have as much time to prepare the children but this did not stop their enthusiasm and effort. The girls came joint 6th out of 8 schools and the boys won gold with a nailbiting win of just 2 points between us and Catton Grove. They will be off to represent Norwich East at the School Games Final on 26th February at the Sportspark. More details to follow.
I have never been prouder of all the teams. The children were a credit to their families and our school. It is a day we will not forget. Some children were overcome with emotion and it just goes to show once again the power of competitive sport.
A huge thank you to Mr. Childs who helps to coach the Year 5/6s at our free afterschool club. You have developed such good relationships with the children and you supported them brilliantly on the day. Thanks also to Mrs. Fiddy and Mrs. Childs who also helped to make this possible.
Sportshall Athletics can also be enjoyed out of school and if children are interested please contact www.conac.org.uk. This indoor athletics club starts at age 8 and runs from September to March. when the outdoor season starts on the track.
