Music

Music is highly valued and a real strength at Brundall Primary.

By the end of their time with us, children can currently expect to have learnt two instruments (a string instrument and the saxophone), participated in weekly Pop Choir communal singing and fortnightly hymn practice and have the opportunity to perform as part of an ensemble or as a soloist. The school provides string instruments for all year 3,4 and 5 pupils, which are taken home to practise upon, and use of saxophones in Year 6. We are fortunate to have a long-term relationship with specialist music teachers who are skilled at leading large instrumental tuition groups, and the concerts at end of term or year are rewarding and musical. Pupils are able to join one of the two school choirs, who are developing varied and challenging repertoires and have performed in the village and in Norwich.

We are also provide piano and wind tuition on site through visiting teachers that we have a long term relationship with. These teachers are able to arrange and work towards grading exams. The school has been involved in opportunities to take part in the Britten Centenary at St Andrews’ Hall in Norwich, as well as hosting performances by visiting string quartets, gospel choir leaders, steel band groups and attending other events in Norwich.

There are a number of musical teachers on staff, some who form the ‘Brundall’s Got Brass’ band at Christmas. The music curriculum is further taught through assemblies and class work, covering the range of musical terminology, genre and skills expected from the new Curriculum.

This is how the music curriculum at Brundall fulfils our mission of Achievement and Creativity for all.
